Flying Squadron 26 Aircrafts

Bristol Bulldog Mk.IVA (coded BU)

Finland ordered 25 of these British biplane fighters in March 1934. First aircraft was delivered 20.12.1934 and the last one on the end of January 1935. Sweden gave to the Finnish Air Force two Bulldog Mk.IIA aircrafts during the Winter War. When the Winter War began the Finnish Air Force had 15 Bulldogs, the all of them were assigned to the Flying Squadron 26. During the war one of the Bulldogs was lost in combat. The Bulldogs gained 6 air victories during the Winter War.

Fokker D XXI (coded FR)

Finland ordered the first 7 aircrafts late 1936 and they were delivered at 12.10.1937. In 1937 Finland bought a manufacturing license for 35 aircrafts and later extended the license to built 55 more in the States Aircraft Factory (Valtion Lentokonetehdas - VL). A total of 97 aircrafs flew in the Finnish Air Force during Winter and Continuation Wars. During the Wars Fokkers got 187 victories (127 during Winter War). Total of 55 aircrafts were lost including the inter-war peacetime - 36 pilots were killed. The Flying Squadron 26 had nine Fokkers in the beginning of the Winter War. The Fokker equipped Fighter Flight was subordinated to the Flying Squadron 24 until the Flying Squadron 26 was re-equipped with Gloster Gladiators in January 1940. During the subordination time LLv26´s pilots got around 25 air victories with Fokker and only one plane was lost in action.

Gloster Gladiator Mk.II (coded GL)

20 aircrafts were bought from Britain in December 1939 and 10 more aircraft were received as a gift from the British afterwards.

Fiat G.50 (coded FA)

35 aircrafts were bought from Italy 1939-40. Two aircrafts were lost before operations, one in a crash in Sweden and one was lost during the ferry flight to Finland.

Brewster B-239 (coded BW)

44 pieces F2A-1 series aircrafts were bought from USA at the beginning of 1940. Two aircrafts were lost in accidents during test flights in Sweden before ferry flight to Finland. The first five aircrafts were received by the Finnish Air Force in March 1940, but they didn´t participate the Winter War.

VL Myrsky (coded MY)

50 aircraft was ordered from the States Aircraft Factory in August 1942. First flight of Series II aircraft was 21.12.1943, actually the first aircrafts were finished not until July 1944. Total of 52 Series I and II aircrafts were finished. No air victories, only one damaged Jak-9 and La-5. No combat losses.

Polikarpov I-153 (coded IT)

8 Tshaikas was get as a war booty during the Winter War and 2 was captured during the Continuation War. 11 aircrafts was bought from Germany, total of 21 aircrafts.
